“Although ‘Wedding Bell Blues’ gave Laura a huge hit as a writer when it was covered by The Fifth Dimension, it was a sore point for Laura. The song had originally been a mini-suite containing several dramatic and unconventional rhythmic changes. The album’s arranger Herb Bernstein didn’t approve and got his way forcing Laura to go with a more straight forward take of what she wanted to be a bold central piece on her debut.
This disagreement between Bernstein and what she saw as a betrayal by her label led to Laura later disowning the album. That’s a great shame because although it may not be what Laura intended, it remains a wonderful work.”
